Visited “The Jellies Experience” lately? Some species are as large as we’ve ever seen them, including our new upside-down jellies. Why live life this way? By lying upside-down, these jellies expose their algae to the sun, allowing photosynthesis!
In a first for any aquarium worldwide, we added stunning crown jellies to “The Jellies Experience” special exhibition this summer. These are unlike any jellies we’ve had, with beautiful, purple colors and an array of “spikes” emanating from the four-inch bell.
Our greatest hope for a new exhibit like “The Jellies Experience” is to inspire the next generation of ocean stewards. Is it working? Check out this great photo from visitor Beth Trittipo!
Did you know we cultivate many of our jellies right here at the Aquarium? A viewing window in our new exhibit, “The Jellies Experience,” lets you watch our scientists in action! Or you can take a peek inside a jellyfish laboratory in this video.
What would it be like to swim with the jellies? In “The Jellies Experience” you become part of the exhibit, interacting with a swarm of virtual jellies and sparking them to glow with bioluminescent light. The exhibit opens to all on March 31, but members can experience a special preview March 30! Learn more about membership.
